Consultations for wrinkles

Anti-wrinkle treatments are designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles. This treatment is particularly effective for dynamic wrinkles, which are formed from repeated facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, or squinting. 

When administered by a medical professional, the treatment is safe. However, as with any procedure, there are risks and side effects, which will be discussed in your consultation. 

When considering anti-wrinkle treatments, mild side effects such as swelling, bruising, redness, and minor pain are normal and typically resolve quickly. You may also experience temporary, mosquito-like bumps at the treatment site for 15 minutes post-treatment. 

Rare side effects can include headaches, flu-like symptoms, muscle droops, or facial asymmetry, depending on the treatment area. 

All potential side effects will be discussed in your consultation. 

Wrinkle Reduction treatments are typically not painful, although some people may experience a slight pinch or discomfort during the treatment. Topical anaesthetic, ice and distraction tools are often used in treatment to minimise any discomfort. 

We do not recommend these treatments for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your safety is our priority, and in line with TGA guidelines, these treatments are not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding. 

At Dermal Cosmetica, we take pride in using only Australian-approved products. While we are unable to advertise specific product brands, we will provide you with full product details during your consultation. 

We recommend receiving treatment 4-6 weeks before an event. This allows us to perform a follow-up at the 2-week review to perfect your results. By 4-6 weeks, you’ll look and feel your most natural. 

 In Australia, you must be at least 18 years old to receive wrinkle reduction treatments from a cosmetic practitioner. The development of lines on the skin is not age-dependent, and several factors can contribute to increased wrinkle formation, including:

• Frequent facial expressions, such as raising your eyebrows, squinting, or frowning
• Regular smoking
• Excessive sun exposure
• High stress levels

After a thorough medical consultation, your clinical photos will be taken, your face will be cleansed, and the treatment area will be marked with a pencil. During the treatment, our Registered Nurses will carefully administer the products to the targeted areas. The procedure typically takes around 10-15 minutes, depending on the extent of the treatment.

2 weeks prior to your appointment 

• No planned vaccinations for 2 weeks prior to your wrinkle reduction appointment
• Avoid treatment within 2 weeks of illness (cold/flu)

2 - 5 days prior to your appointment 

•  We recommend avoiding blood thinners (ibuprofen, fish oil tablets), alcohol and caffeine. However please consult your treating doctor before stopping any medications.
• If you're prone to bruising and swelling, you can begin taking arnica tablets (available at most health food stores)

• AVOID alcohol intake and smoking 
• Notify your nurse if you have any active cold sores and intend on having treatment around the lips (this is contraindicated)

•   Eat a good meal and stay hydrated before your appointment. 
• AVOID caffeine
• Arrive with a clean face, if possible

• Stay upright for at least 4 hours.
• Do not rub, lean, or touch the treated (light face wash at least 4 hours after is acceptable).
• Avoid physical/strenuous activity for 24 hours.
• Avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours.
• Avoid exposure to heat for at least 24 hours (i.e sauna, spa, sun exposure, sun bathing)
• No facias, waxing, laser to the treated areas, or face-down massage for any upper face treatments for 2 weeks.
• Opt for paracetamol to treat any headaches/pain. 

Full results can take up to 2 weeks to appear. If, after this time, you still notice more muscle movement than expected or desired, please schedule a follow-up appointment for a treatment review.
