2 weeks prior to your appointment 

• No planned vaccinations for 2 weeks prior to your volume replacement appointment
• Avoid treatment within 2 weeks of illness (cold/flu)

2 - 5 days prior to your appointment 

•  We recommend avoiding blood thinners (ibuprofen, fish oil tablets), alcohol and caffeine. However please consult your treating doctor before stopping any medications.
• If you're prone to bruising and swelling, you can begin taking arnica tablets (available at most health food stores)

• AVOID alcohol intake and smoking 
• Notify your nurse if you have any active cold sores and intend on having lip filler (this is contraindicated)

•   Eat a good meal and stay hydrated before your appointment. 
• AVOID caffeine
• Arrive with a clean face, if possible

• Do not rub or touch the treated areas today, and avoid pressure to the treatment areas for one week
• Keep the area clean and do not apply make up for at least 12-24 hours after treatment 
• Avoid physical/strenuous activity for 24 hours
• Avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours
• Avoid exposure to heat for 24 hours (i.e sauna, spa, sun exposure, sun bathing)
• Avoid hot drinks for 2 hours if you have had lip filler
• Opt for paracetamol to treat any pain. Avoid ibuprofen (Nurofen), diclofenac (Voltaren) and Aspirin for 24 hours
• Avoid facial and laser treatments to the treatment area for 2 weeks 
• Avoid any face down massages
• For cheek augmentation it is recommended to avoid restrictive headwear, including goggles, motorcycle helmets or N95 masks for up to two weeks
• Swelling and bruising is expected after dermal filler. Arnica tablets or hirudoid cream can help to relieve the bruising sooner, and an antihistamine can reduce swelling
• You may feel lumps for up to 2 weeks, as your body integrates the product 
• Do NOT massage the area treated
• If you can see any lumps at 3 weeks, please book a treatment review appointment for a massage to the area
• If you have a history of coldsores, we recommend you take famciclovir to prevent an outbreak (ask your pharmacist for guidance)
• It is normal to see and feel small lumps of product under the skin after treatment. This should resolve within 1-3 days. If any puffiness has concurred, please allow 2 weeks for this to settle.

Volume loss treatments are designed to restore facial volume and enhance features such as lip volumisation, cheekbones, and jawline definition, using products like dermal fillers and biostimulants (collagen-stimulating treatments). 

When administered by a medical professional, the treatment is safe. However, as with any procedure, there are risks and side effects, which will be discussed in your consultation. 

 During a volume loss treatment, some discomfort and minor bleeding are normal due to the use of small needles. Your treatment area may appear red afterward, and bruising can occur. In rare cases, you may experience dizziness or nausea during the procedure. These side effects are typically short-lived and should resolve as discussed in your consultation. Everyone's pain tolerance varies, but this is generally a well-tolerated treatment, and any discomfort is usually short-lived. For some areas, a numbing cream will be applied, and the treatment itself contains local anaesthetic to further numb the area, ensuring a more comfortable experience. 

We do not recommend these treatments for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your safety is our priority, and in line with TGA guidelines, these treatments are not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding. 

At Dermal Cosmetica, we take pride in using only Australian-approved products. While we are unable to advertise specific product brands, we will provide you with full product details during your consultation. 

We recommend receiving treatment 4-6 weeks before an event to allow the tissue to fully heal and for final results to be visible. It's also advised to attend your 2-week follow-up review to address any lumps, bumps, or correct any asymmetries. 

For most treatments, there is minimal downtime. You may experience some swelling and/or bruising at the treatment sites, along with mild tenderness. 

 If you notice any of the following symptoms, please contact our clinic immediately:

• Unusual coloration (dusky or white) of the treatment area, mottling, or unexpected bruising
• Severe or increasing pain, redness, warmth, or coolness to the touch
• Significant swelling or extensive bruising
• Itching, blisters, or pustules
• Loss of sensation or numbness
• Abnormal sensations in the affected area
• Difficulty swallowing, smiling, fever, or chills

The frequency of treatments depends on the product used and your individual aesthetic goals. This will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation. 

After a thorough medical consultation, your clinical photos will be taken, your face will be cleansed, and the treatment area will be numbed if necessary. During the treatment, a Registered Nurse will carefully administer the products to the targeted area.
